Mosque Garden restoration, Cristo de la Luz
BIC, Toledo, UNESCO World heritage site

We were commissioned by the Archbishopric of Toledo to rebuild the pavings and create a new planting scheme for this ancient mosque in Toledo, a UNESCO world heritage site.

New shady walkways and strips of formal planting laid out in the manner reminiscent of monastic tradition were introduced to enhance the visitor experience and honour the centuries old environment. Along one side of the new planting scheme in the geometric formal beds, a pergola was introduced to offer shade and evoke the 'hortus conclusus'.   The paving around the mosque and within the gardens was restored and a new suds system installed around the main building to avoid floodings during torrential rains.
